Lalitpur — Godawari Municipality of Lalitpur has decided to provide NPR 5 million (Rs. 50 lakh) in financial assistance for the rescue, relief, and recovery of citizens affected by the devastating floods and landslides in Rasuwa and Nuwakot.

A meeting of the Municipal Executive held today decided to transfer the amount to the Relief and Rescue Fund as humanitarian assistance to those affected by the natural disaster.

Godawari Municipality Mayor Gajendra Maharjan said that it is both a humanitarian and moral responsibility for one local government to support citizens affected by a disaster in another district during such a difficult and tragic time.

“The floods and landslides in Rasuwa and Nuwakot have caused significant loss of life and property. In such a sensitive and tragic situation, it is our moral and humanitarian responsibility as a local government to extend support to citizens in the affected districts,” Mayor Maharjan said.

According to the municipality, the NPR 5 million will be mobilized in coordination with the relevant authorities based on the needs of the most severely affected areas and families, with priority given to relief, rescue, and recovery efforts.

The sudden flooding, reportedly triggered after a river was blocked upstream in Tibet, has severely affected several settlements in Rasuwa and Nuwakot. A large number of people have been affected and displaced, while rescue and relief operations are being carried out in coordination with local governments and other concerned agencies.

Godawari Municipality has also appealed to other local governments, organizations, the private sector, and civil society to extend their support to the people affected by the disaster.

The decision by Godawari Municipality is expected to strengthen humanitarian solidarity among local governments and demonstrate the importance of standing together and supporting one another during times of disaster.
